Adventurous journey to Ulcinj

Tucked in the southernmost part of Montenegro, the small but very beautiful town of Ulcinj has continuously attracted tourists from different parts of the Europe. Highly recommended for tourists who wanted to learn more about the country’s culture, Ulcinj always has kept that traditional feel even with all the changes it has experienced.

Getting to Ulcinj is a little bit tricky. The easiest way to get to this small town is to use a bus. Most cities within the southern area of the country will get you to Ulcinj. If you can arrive in one of those cities you can choose the regular bus or a “combi”. It’s a form of small bus which might not have a license for public transportation. Although a lot more expensive, it’s faster than the bus.

There are three reasons why tourists visit Ulcinj – the beach, the cathedral and the old town.

The beach in Ulcinj is relatively small so you’ll be sure to bump into a lot of tourists there. The beautiful Sveti Nikola Cathedral is an 1890 reconstruction of the original. Russian influence in art and design can be easily noticed in this cathedral. The old town is particularly interesting because of the castle, tower and traditional structures that will virtually make you feel you are in the middle ages.

In terms of accommodation and food, Ulcinj could provide great savings. Highly recommended is to look for private accommodations so that you can live with the family and enjoy traditional food with a very comfortable and safe accommodation.
