Safe travel in Moscow

Going to Moscow can be a lot of fun. However, you need to keep a few of the following tips in mind. If you do not, then you will have a pretty hard time in Moscow. After all, it’s not the easiest place to be a tourist.

Enjoy the metro transportation in Moscow. The stations are decorated with chandeliers, murals and works of art. The metro in this city has some of the longest escalators in Europe (long enough for you to have the time to admire the walls). This will make your underground travelling in Moscow a very interesting experience.

The first thing that you have to remember about Moscow is the weather. If it’s between May and September, then you are going to need winter clothing. If you go during the main part of winter, then you are going to need a lot (and that means a lot) of winter clothing. Also try to wear some waterproof shoes.

Next, remember that all travellers to Moscow, or any part of Russia for that matter, have to carry their passport with them at all times. Russia is well known for targeting tourists to check for their passports. If you have all of your stuff in order, then you should be fine. There are some cops in Moscow that will try to scam you to take your cash. That is why it is a good idea to keep the number to your embassy on you all the time. If a cop is bothering you, threaten to call the embassy. Of course, Moscow is trying to clean up their reputation, so some of these scams should soon be extinct.

Remember that there are two different kinds of Moscow stores as well. There are some that are going to cost you a ton of money, and then there are some that will cost you next to nothing. It’s a good idea to hunt around for good deals before settling on something.
