Glenapp Castle, Ayrshire

It doesn’t get more romantic than a castle hotel.  Glenapp Castle is a 5* fairy tale castle situated on the Ayrshire coast in south west Scotland.  Built in 1870, Glenapp was purchased by the McMillan Family in 1994.  The family’s daughter Fay and her husband Graham spent 6 years restoring the castle to its former glory before opening its doors to guests in the year 2000.  Glenapp offers 5 luxurious suites alongside 14 beautiful bedrooms.  The entire castle has been furnished to suit its grand architecture, with many bedrooms including stately four post beds and crystal chandeliers.

Guests at Glenapp can enjoy fine six-course dining at the onsite restaurant.  Glenapp Castle is open seasonally from mid-March to New Year’s each year.  Room rates start at £400/night, which is inclusive of dinner.

Lime Wood Hotel, New Forest

Ardanaiseig Hotel, Kilchrenan

The rugged Scottish Highlands conceals what is perhaps Scotland’s most romantic hotel.  Ardanaiseig was originally built in the 1830s and has since been converted into a decadent retreat.  Located near the banks of Loch Awe, the main house contains 18 master and double rooms.  The property also includes a 2-bedroom rose cottage (from £200/night) and a self-contained boat shed directly on Loch Awe (from £275/night).

The boat shed, which is a stunning ultra modern cottage complete with glass walls, has been described as the ‘ultimate lovers’ retreat’ by Elle magazine.  The rooms in the main house of Ardanaiseig are also impressive, as each has been furnished individually with bold and lavish linens and furniture.  Double rooms with garden views start at £140/night.
